Ann Gibson
Senior Account Manager
Often traditional economic development leaves branding, marketing and tourism development out of the equation. In challenging economic times, destinations must be increasingly creative in their approach to economic development, relying more heavily on online presence and strategic partnerships. Tourism development, when incorporated into a destination’s business development goals, can have tremendous positive impact on the local economy and quality of life.”
With more than 15 years of experience in non-profit marketing and economic development, Ann is skilled in identifying assets and building relationships to realize community initiatives and goals. Her work on an integrated marketing program for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, which included research, collateral, media, and advertising, reinforced the University’s brand identity and increased enrollment. She also spearheaded tourism development and collaborative marketing initiatives for the Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau to promote group and leisure visitation and increase visitor spending. One of her greatest accomplishments was as a member of the marketing team responsible for opening the U.S. National Whitewater Center, a multi-million dollar outdoor recreation and Olympic training facility in Charlotte, NC.
Currently, Ann leads the marketing and communications efforts for the city of Kannapolis, an emerging biotechnology hub that is home to the $1.5 billion North Carolina Research Campus. In this role she manages economic development, branding, tourism development, and marketing communications strategies, including digital and social media, public relations, and event management.
Ann is a University of Maryland graduate and earned the designation of Tourism Marketing Professional (TMP) from the Southeastern Tourism Society. She is active in the Destination Marketing Association and International Economic Development Council.
